Dr. Nongfan Zhu is president of China Science Patent and Trademark Agent Ltd., where he practices intellectual property law and manages daily business operation. His current practice encompasses all aspects of intellectual property law with emphasis on China IP strategy development, cross-border technology licensing and IP dispute resolutions.

YEARS EXPERIENCE more than 10 years

Dr. Zhu previously worked as senior intellectual property counsel for Asia Pacific at General Electric Company in 2000-2005. In that role, he was responsible for establishing and implementing IP protection strategies across the region. He also led GE’s China IP initiatives and policy advocacy for protecting IP assets and capitalizing the same for commercial benefits.

Dr. Zhu has been very active in IP community in China. He served as chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce Shanghai’s IP subcommittee in 2002-2005 where he transformed the IP subcommittee into a highly visible platform to voice IP protection concerns by multinational companies and to share their best practice. In 2005, he started an IP Forum between foreign and Chinese companies to establish communication on IP practice matters. He was a frequent speaker at many international IP conferences.

Prior to joining GE, Dr. Zhu was with the U.S. IP law firm of Pennie & Edmonds in its New York offices for seven years, where he developed extensive experience and skills in IP law practice.

He received his J. D. from New York Law School, Ph.D. in applied physics from Columbia University and B.S. in physics from East China Normal University. He is admitted to the bars of New York State, the Federal Court of Southern District of New York, the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
