After obtaining a bachelor’s degree in economic law from the East China University of Politics and Law in 1988 and passing the bar in China, Wei Li worked for four years as a legal advisor in the State Administration of Industry and Commerce (SAIC) in Shanghai. His work mainly comprised the administration of intellectual property and the regulation of foreign investments. In October 1999, Li obtained a bachelor’s degree in Swiss law at the University of Fribourg, and in October 2003, a master’s degree in intellectual property law at the University of Geneva in Switzerland. From July 2004 to April 2005, he worked as a legal advisor for the Swiss Federal Department of Economy in Bern, participating as a member of the Swiss delegation in the negotiations between Switzerland and other Members of the WTO. Since April 2000, Li has been serving as legal counsel for the Swiss-Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Geneva. Since April 2003, he has also been a member of the Supervisory Board of the "Foundation Swiss Centers", which operates the "Swiss Center Shanghai". Li is fluent in Chinese, French and English and has some understanding of German. He has extensive experience in advising European clients investing or doing business in China as well as Chinese clients investing or doing business in Switzerland and the European Union. His main fields of practice include a wide array of business related areas, such as WTO law, foreign investment law, corporate law, banking law, insurance law, securities law, technology transfer and franchising, tax law, trust law, labour law, commercial law and the settlement of international disputes.
